Understandably, in the newsletter, I have limited space to share with you the progress we are making here at the Hindhead Campus. Here on the website I can be a little more expansive.

We are very excited to be able to invite you to the opening of the Self Directed Learning Centre on October 7th at 9:30-10:45am followed by a tour of our wonderful new facility. We would like to invite you to a morning with former tornado pilot Mandy Hickson and Colin Sinclair (Regional Principal) to hear more about our teaching and learning philosophy Self Directed Learning. Our CAP sponsors and Sixth Form students will then attend a motivational session led by Mandy Hickson (11:15am-13:00pm) to launch the 2016-17 CAP initiative.

As a personal recommendation, Many Hickson was simply inspirational when she last visited to meet with staff. In the midst of buildings work and rooms changes, IT failure and even an unscheduled fire alarm, Mandy was unshakeable. It is one thing to talk about resilience and grit, it is another to demonstrate it and evidence it. For many staff, Mandy’s talk and session was the highlight of their two day in-service training and I encourage you to be able to hear her address. I am pleased to welcome Colin Sinclair (Regional Principal) to our opening. At the forefront of the Trusts work on Self Directed Learning, few are more qualified to present on the topic of Self Directed Learning.

The Week Ahead

With so many new staff joining us at Hindhead, the only way staff can attend the National Staff Induction on Thursday 29th is to open the school for only Y3, Y4, Y5, Y6, Y10 and Y11, Y12 and Y13 students. We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and limited notice period. We are in a unique position with so many new staff joining us. On which note, thank you to those parents who either offered feedback or noted the contribution of staff. I have passed on each and every comment.

On Friday, after the newsletter had gone to print (so to speak) Mrs Squires and I informally spoke with the 6th Form. We are proud of the way our Sixth Forms have conducted themselves and their enthusiasm, creativity and industry shown for school leadership projects left us buoyed. We are very enthused and look forward to seeing these projects come to fruition and how they will contribute to the school atmosphere.
