On Friday 8th July 2016, the pupils of Hindhead Campus came together at 8:15am for Sports Day at the Aldershot Military Stadium. This fantastic facility enabled all the students to be able to perform to the best of their ability. This year, we also had professionals timing all the track events electronically so that we would be able to time events more precisely. The weather started out cloudy and breezy but fortunately turned out nice and sunny in the end.
We came together early in the morning and had a brief introduction where our teacher, Mr Still, explained the days programme and reminded us that it was essential to follow all instructions, especially when throwing events were taking place.
This year, there were also more activities for the Key Stage 2 pupils, which helped to make them feel more included. The first senior events were javelin, shot put, discus and long jump. While these were taking place, the primary pupils rotated around several fun events like “welly wanging,” throwing bean bags into a bucket, skipping and speed jumping. Many of the younger school mentioned how these activities made the sports day so much better than last year.
Records were broken in long jump, high jump, shot, discus, javelin, 800m, hurdles, 300m, 200m, 80m & relays. This proved to be a great achievement and we congratulate all those that beat previous records.
This great event was topped with lovely food consisting of homemade cakes, cheese straws and much more besides. Thank you to all those who contributed to this. It was very much enjoyed by staff, students and parents.
We would also like to congratulate Stirling Carron who fell in hurdles and landed on his arm, tried to continue but stopped short of the end. He was then taken to hospital, came back to the event and ran the boy’s relay. Well done, Stirling!!!
The Year 13’s, even though they weren’t there to compete came along enthusiastically supporting their teams, while helping take photos, move equipment and generally liven up the atmosphere. Thank you, all Year 13’s that came on Friday.
This Sports Day was the first event with the Bognor students who joined us in September from the Pulbrough Campus and we are very glad for their input. It has made the school so much more interesting and we are thankful for the extra competition that this has encouraged.
The students would also like to thank:
Mr Still – for his enthusiasm and commitment to make the day run as smoothly as possible.
Mrs Middleton – for her commitment to the school and ensuring that the day ran smoothly.
Madame Caldo ( French teacher and P.E. teacher) – for her help in taking down the scores and ensuring that in the last few P.E. lessons sports day practice were completed.
Mr Long (P.E. teacher) – for his support and enthusiasm throughout the day.
Annabel Rose for her continued hard work to put the races and charts together. Thank you, Annabel.
Ronnie Porter (commentating) – for his enthusiasm and encouragement towards all participators and for getting a professional photographer along.
Thank you everyone; spectators, scorers, timers, those that prepared the food and many others for all the hard work that you put in. Last but not least – Well done all the students of Hindhead Campus for participating and showing how teamwork and commitment bring results.
Well done Grayshott team for winning!!!
