We are fortunate to have a school located in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The Devils Punch Bowl is a short walk through the trees from our playing fields and is frequented by our students for field trips, cross country running and by our staff who wish to take a walk at lunchtime.
Our specialist facilities include a well-equipped science laboratory, technical workshop, music rooms, food technology practical areas, computer labs and outdoor sports facilities including all-weather playing surfaces. The School Board are constantly looking for ways to enhance and improve these facilities. A new £2M “Self Directed Learning Centre” will soon provide a state of the art learning space where students can learn individually, in small groups and whole classes.
Off-site sports facilities at the Spectrum Centre or University of Surrey in Guildford are used for Sports Day and some team sports if inclement weather adversely affects our own playing fields.
As the Trust grows, a number of services and development opportunities are being delivered centrally. Therefore staff regularly attend professional development seminars both from independent bodies and Focus, locally, at other Focus school sites and centrally. Lastly, access to the Focus Teacher Academy for continued professional development is an exciting new Focus opportunity.
As part of the Focus School Group, Hindhead Campus enjoys a wide range of excellent quality resources which would otherwise be beyond reach. Focus are often at the cutting edge of new developments within the Education world. Together we are committed to providing up to date and relevant books, DVDs, online resources, IT hardware and software and research material to fully support the teachers in delivering the curriculum in an engaging and professional manner.
Our extensive use of video conferencing to share outstanding teaching across different schools and to widen the subject choice available at Post 16 is an area of particular success. Some of our staff deliver their subjects to other Focus Schools in the UK via Video Conferencing.
High quality equipment and a dedicated support team allow this method of teaching to enhance the students’ self-directed learning skills and allows for creative interaction between schools both in the UK and abroad.
We are continually developing our use of virtual learning environments to allow students to work on assignments from home, and to network with teachers and fellow students in a safe and efficient way.
Field Trips are an important part of the learning process. Each year group embark on a number of visits throughout the year. From the Houses of Parliament to the New Forest we endeavour to offer our students experiences which are both varied and relevant.
Our teachers are our most valuable asset and particular attention is given to providing a pleasant and effective working environment.
